Dental Braces
Why do I need dental braces?
Crowded or crooked teeth spoil your smile and are also more prone to
dental problems. These include decays and gum (periodontal) disease.
Braces
can be used to straighten any crooked teeth. Adults can also straighten
their teeth with dental braces but it will take longer to correct the
problems.
How many types of dental braces are there?
There are 2 types of dental braces: fixed braces and removable braces.
The most common type of fixed braces are made of metal while there are
also tooth-coloured (ceramic or plastic) braces.
Removable braces are dental braces which are
taken out of the mouth when you brush your teeth.
What is the process of wearing braces?
Braces work by applying force and pressure to your teeth.
Adjustments will have to be made once every few weeks to gradually move your teeth into the desired positions over time to give you the smile you desire.
How long will treatment take?
The
whole orthodontic treatment takes on average 1-2 years to complete,
though some individuals may require a shorter or longer time. We
strongly advise you to come regularly for your adjustments to hasten
the process. With the advancement
of dental braces technology, it is now possible to straighten teeth with minimum discomfort and time.
Are there alternatives to visible metal braces?
Aesthetically,
it is possible to use invisible braces which no one will notice. Some
types of invisible braces are placed behind the teeth so no one can see
them. Others, like Invisalign and eCligners, make use of a series of
custom-made invisible aligner trays to gently and gradually move your
teeth into position.
Now you can smile without anyone knowing you
are wearing
dental braces. No more feeling self conscious or embarrased with
invisible dental braces!
