Teeth Whitening
What is Teeth Whitening?
Discoloured teeth or teeth stained by coffee, tea, tobacco can be
'whitened' to give you a brighter smile. Teeth whitening is usually
done together with polishing to give you brighter teeth. There are a
few ways of whitening your teeth, the most popular being our Philips Zoom! One
Hour Teeth Whitening service, which whitens teeth up to 8 shades in 45 minutes.
Is Teeth Whitening safe?Yes. Clinical
studies have shown that teeth whitening with hydrogen peroxide or
carbamide with safe quantities under the supervision of a dental
professional is safe for teeth and gums.Does Teeth Whitening work?
Yes, if it is done by a dentist. This is the effective, safe and fast
way to having a brighter smile in the shortest time as compared to
other methods.
How about other methods of Teeth
Whitening?
Toothpaste whitening is a cheap but ineffective tooth whitening option.
Others may prefer a prescription gel kit that allow them to whiten
their teeth at home over a period of time. This requires the patient to
fill a mouth tray with a whitening gel and place it over the teeth for
hours. The results are not as lasting or effective as getting the teeth
whitening job done at the dentist.
What if I want to whiten my teeth at home? While we
recommend leaving the whitening procedure to us as you relax in
our office, customised professional-strength take-home kits are
available. These take-home kits utilise high-potency gels with
custom-moulded trays that cover full teeth coverage for superior
whitening results, though more time will be required to achieve the
same results.
What to expect during your appointment
During your appointment
you will be consulted as to the shade of white for your teeth. Usually
it is a colour that is closest to the natural colour of your teeth.
During the one-hour teeth whitening
process, a safe whitening gel is applied to the teeth. After which a
safe white light is used to activate the whitening effect on the teeth.
When can I resume my normal activities?
You can go back to their normal daily activities almost immediately
after the teeth whitening procedure.
Is the Teeth Whitening procedure
painful?
It is a totally painless procedure.
How long will the effect last?
Whitened teeth are usually able to remain in the same state for about a
year. However, certain habits such as smoking, drinking coffee or tea
may cause staining on the teeth. As such you may require teeth
whitening treatments periodically.
