Dental Crowns
When do I need a dental crown?
When the cavity or defect in a tooth is too
large, a normal filling may not be the best long term restoration. You
may need a dental crown to protect the weakened
tooth.
Crowns
are caps or "helmets" which sit upon the weak tooth to protect it and
also restore your smile. It typically takes two appointments to place a
crown.
What to expect during your
appointment
At the first appointment, the tooth is
prepared and any decay removed. A precise mould is taken and a temporary
dental crown made. The mould and other records are then sent
to a dental laboratory where the dental crown is custom crafted for the
tooth.
The
second appointment involves adjusting and fitting the dental crown to
precisely fit the tooth. Once everything is fine, the dental crown is
then cemented into place.

Is it painful?
You should not feel any pain after the dental crowning procedure.
However, you may feel some tooth sensitivity if the crowned tooth has

How long will the crowned tooth last?
Your crowned teeth may last for decades with proper daily home care and
regular check-ups.
